Charlottetown police are warning home owners using portable air
conditioners in ground floor windows that they could become the target
of thieves.
This year's warm summer has prompted more people to buy air conditioners. Police have found that has led to more cases of thieves removing the devices to gain access to homes.
"What has been happening is thieves will go and they will either push or pull out these temporary air conditioning units," said deputy police chief Gary McGuigan.
"Once that happens then they have an open window and they are able to gain access into the residence."
McGuigan said home owners should ensure air conditioners are secured on the inside of the house to prevent access.
